Pāpāmoa accommodation is beach house territory, a long straight shore east of Mount Maunganui with the Pāpāmoa Hills behind it.
Follow the coastal path far enough and you reach the Mount. Turn inland instead and the tracks at Te Rae o Pāpāmoa climb past old pā terraces to a view over the whole bay. Most beach houses stand a street or two back from the sand, which is where the day tends to go anyway.
