Paihia accommodation is a short walk from the wharf, where boats leave through the day for the outer Bay of Islands.

Holiday homes and apartments look onto a string of small beaches, sheltered enough to swim off the sand in front of town. Sailing charters, fishing trips and the Twin Coast Cycle Trail at Opua all start minutes away. January is the loud month. The shoulder seasons are warm and much quieter.
