Pirongia

Pirongia accommodation gathers at the foot of the maunga, a Waikato village of holiday homes and country retreats with the forest park on its doorstep.

Tracks leave the village edge and climb through tawa and rimu toward the summit, and Hamilton is half an hour north when the day wants a city. After dark the mountain stands as a black shape against the west.
