Mangawhai

Mangawhai accommodation splits between the old village and the Heads, where a surf beach and a tidal estuary meet behind the sandspit.

The cliff walk is what brings people back, climbing out of the Heads along the coast, with a return along the beach that only works at low tide. Opposite, the sandspit is a breeding ground for fairy terns and is protected through the nesting season. Baches here are a short walk from either the surf or the harbour.
