The Ruapehu Hideaway
Escape to a quaint, older-styled 1980s two-bedroom house, nestled amidst trees for a serene, private retreat. Located in the nearest village to Tongariro Crossing, it’s the ultimate post-hike haven. A short 10-minute walk to the railway or a 15-minute drive to Mount Ruapehu, it offers easy access to amenities and dining options. Complete with a well-equipped kitchen, heat pump, and included linen, it’s perfect for couples or small families. Please note you are required to clean before departure.
Kitchen & Dining
The kitchen has a microwave, electric hob/oven, jug, toaster, fridge/freezer, slow cooker and waffle maker. The cupboards have basic supplies and we are more than happy if they get used if you’ve run out of something.
Bedrooms
Sleeping arrangements: one queen bed in the master bedroom and two single beds in the second bedroom.
Bathrooms
The bathroom includes a shower and a toilet accessible directly from the bathroom.
Outdoor Areas
At the front of the house, you’ll find a deck and a BBQ table set on a charming brick path—perfect for outdoor meals and relaxing.
Entertainment
There is a small TV for use with the DVD player provided, and a range of DVD’s, there is no TV reception.
On rainy days you can snuggle up with a good book, watch a DVD, play cards, board games or just have a good yarn with each other

Located only 15 minutes from the Tongariro Crossing, with Ruapehu Scenic Shuttles recommended for convenient transport.
House Rules
🧼 Before You Leave:
• Place all used towels, sheets, pillowcases, and tea towels in the laundry.
• No need to remake the beds.
• Please leave the house tidy.
• Cleaning products can be found in the bathroom.
• Remember to take your rubbish with you – there is no collection service. A local transfer station is open a few days a week, or you can use the bins at the Park ’n Ride on Findlay Street for recycling and rubbish.
🤞 Small favour — please use the extractor fan above the oven when cooking, as I’ve just replaced the heat pump and want to keep any food contaminants out of it.

Booking Cancellation Policy
Guests may cancel their booking up to 14 full days before check-in to receive a full refund of the booking amount. Cancellations made less than 14 full days before check-in are non-refundable. The 3% bank payment fee is non-refundable in all cases.
