Wānaka

Wānaka accommodation opens onto a glacial lake, with Roys Peak on the western shore and Mount Aspiring National Park up the valley.

Baches and alpine houses sit within a few streets of the water. Mornings go to the Glendhu Bay track or an early climb; afternoons go to swimming and the lakefront. Treble Cone and Cardrona take the winter, and the Matukituki road runs on to the park boundary past braided river flats.
