Twizel

Twizel grew up as a hydro construction town in the Mackenzie Basin, and its accommodation makes a base for trips up the valley to Aoraki/Mount Cook.

Lake Pūkaki’s milky blue water is close by, rowers train on Lake Ruataniwha, and the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail runs through on its way to Oamaru. The night sky here is part of the Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve. Holiday homes and cottages in Twizel sit between the lakes and the mountains.
