Mackenzie & Aoraki Mt Cook

The Mackenzie Basin is high tussock country under the Southern Alps, and its accommodation reaches from Lake Tekapo and Twizel up to Aoraki/Mount Cook.

Lupins line the lake edges in early summer, and the Hooker Valley Track ends at a glacier lake beneath the highest peak in the country. Fairlie is the way in from the east. A holiday home here makes a base for the walks, the cycle trail and clear nights spent stargazing.
