Havelock accommodation amounts to a few streets and a marina at the far end of Queen Charlotte Drive.

Cottages and baches sit within sight of the moorings. A mail boat has worked this sound for generations, delivering to families the road never reached and taking passengers along for the day. Up the highway, the Pelorus Bridge reserve keeps cold green swimming holes under tall podocarp forest. Ernest Rutherford went to school here.
