Experience a remote escape on the West Coast, where lush rainforest meets the Tasman Sea. This beachfront bach offers a rustic retreat nestled among native palms. It is a classic dwelling, providing a quirky alternative to modern accommodation. Step outside onto the sand, explore the nearby cave, or wander along a wild coastline.
Inside, you’ll find classic bach decor and comfortable spaces. For warmth, a classic log burner stands ready with firewood provided, ensuring a cosy atmosphere on cooler days. There is also unlimited satellite WiFi.
Two bedrooms offer restful spaces for up to four guests. The bathroom has a good shower with endless hot water.
Operating completely off-grid, this property utilises solar power for lighting, device charging, and internet. The kitchen is equipped with the essential facilities, including a gas hob and gas oven. To conserve solar power, we do not have a microwave or toaster.
Outside, a grassy lawn features a stone fire pit where you can burn beach driftwood under the stars. Cell reception is accessible from the deck (weak signal) or down on the beach (strong signal). Roadside parking for two vehicles is located at the top of a short pedestrian ramp.
Located near Punakaiki, this spot is ideal for nature lovers. Be sure to stock up on groceries in Westport or Greymouth before arriving, or enjoy a meal at the local tavern. Your stay also supports a good cause, as a portion of every booking is donated to the West Coast Penguin Trust to help protect local wildlife. Sorry, dogs are strictly prohibited – Penguins live in the bush next to the bach.

A retro kitchen is equipped with a gas oven, gas hob, and an under-bench fridge. Enjoy meals together at the dining table inside, which features four colourful chairs. Outdoor seating is also available on the deck overlooking the ocean.

Bathrooms
The property includes one bathroom equipped with a shower. The toilet is separate. Gas-heated water ensures a hot shower after a long day on the beach or in the bush. Fresh towels are provided for your convenience.
Outdoor Areas
The bach features a grassy lawn area with a rustic stone fire pit right on the edge of the sand. It is the perfect spot to toast sweet marshmallows while watching the West Coast sunset. A front deck offers an elevated viewpoint to sit and listen to the crashing waves, perfect in any weat

Unwind in the cosy living space with a good book – plenty are provided; there is also a TV if you prefer. High-speed satellite WiFi keeps you connected to the outside world during your remote stay – we suggest turning off the WiFi when not in use to conserve battery power.

House Rules
Please do your dishes and leave the bach tidy – we will do the rest.
Smoking outside only – use ashtrays provided.
We provide firewood for the inside fire. If you would like to make a campfire in the firepit on the front lawn, please collect driftwood from the beach – it’s fun!
Please keep the roadside gate closed – this prevents penguin fatalities on the road at night. THANKS!

Booking Cancellation Policy
Guests may cancel their booking up to 30 full days before check-in to receive a full refund of the booking amount. Cancellations made less than 30 full days before check-in are non-refundable. The 3% bank payment fee is non-refundable in all cases.
