Two-factor authentication adds a second step to signing in. After your password, you enter a short code from an app on your phone. It means your account stays protected even if someone learns your password.

It is optional, free, and takes about a minute to set up. You will need an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password.

Turning it on

There are two easy ways to turn it on.

From your account: go to My Account → Security and choose to turn on two-factor authentication.

In the chat: just ask. Tell the Concierge, or the Host Assistant if you host on Bookably, something like “set up two-factor authentication,” and the setup panel opens right there.

Either way, the steps are the same:

  1. Open your authenticator app and add a new account.
  2. Scan the QR code on screen, or type in the key shown below it.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code your app displays to confirm.
  4. Save your backup codes somewhere safe.

The next time you sign in, you enter your password as usual, then the current 6-digit code from your app.

Backup codes

When you turn it on, we give you a set of backup codes. Each one works once. They are your way back in if you ever lose access to your phone, so keep them somewhere safe such as a password manager. You can generate a fresh set any time from My Account → Security.

If you lose your phone

Use one of your backup codes in place of the app code to sign in. If you have lost your backup codes as well, contact us and we will help you back in after confirming your identity. Email [email protected] or call 0800 448 938.

Turning it off

You can turn it off any time from My Account → Security, or by asking the Concierge or Host Assistant. For your security, turning it off asks for a current code first, so only you can do it.
