Race weekends work better from a place of your own. Early starts are simpler with your own kitchen, there is room to sort gear the night before, and supporters have somewhere comfortable to wait between checkpoints.

Pāuanui is a beach settlement at the mouth of Tairua Harbour on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, with Pāuanui Beach along its ocean side and a summit track climbing the headland at the south end. Beach houses and apartments across the settlement leave space for boards and wet gear, with Tairua across the harbour and the golf courses in behind the dunes.
