Taste of Tanzania One-Bedroom Suite
The sea-coloured decor for this one-bedroom suite was inspired by our time in Tanzania. It is walking distance to the Crossing mall and about a 15-minute drive to downtown, Mount Maunganui and the closest beach. We are very close to a great walking/biking path going through the Lakes, or head further away to the Historic Village, the CBD, or Bethlehem. It has a well-stocked kitchen and a separate entrance. Ideal for solo travellers, couples, and families with one young child.
We tried to incorporate elements from Tanzania, a place close to our hearts, into our guest suite: the bookshelf is made from an old dhow boat, the photo is from Zanzibar, the poster is of Nick’s local surfing spot in Dar es Salaam, the blue tiles on the backsplash are from an antique shop there, and the curtain ties are from kitenge (the traditional fabric). The room is cozy and bright, and you will have everything you need to be comfortable during your stay. The backyard borders a reserve where you can see sheep grazing and a number of different types of birds. Pukekos often roam around the backyard. The sunsets here are beautiful.
Additional info:
The suite is part of a home with young children. The suite is private (room, bathroom, kitchenette, desk), but backyard access is shared. This area is not fenced. There is a parking spot in our driveway for the suite. You will have privacy while in your room, and the inside door that connects to the house will be locked for the entirety of your stay. However, as the suite backs onto our kitchen and living room, you might hear us throughout the day (between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm). We will aim to keep the noise to a minimum. There are bees located on the property, but they are away from the suite. The backyard is a child’s dream with a trampoline, monkey bars, mud kitchen, and balls. We are very flexible with check-in and check-out times, so please let us know what works for you.

About your hosts:
Vanessa is a stay-at-home mum, so she is mostly here and can help when you need her. She is fluent in English and French, and can also speak Italian, German, and Portuguese, but they is a bit rusty. Nick is a teacher at a local school. In his spare time, he likes to surf and play sports. We have three young children, including a toddler, who love to play outside. We will ask them to respect your privacy, but they might want to say ‘hello’ if they see you. We follow our guests’ lead on how much interaction they want.
